My philosophy of education is derived from my belief that every student has the ability to learn if they are given the right tools to succeed. I strive to meet every learning need so that each child can reach their fullest potential. To do this, I tend to create my lessons and classroom activities based on student-centered teaching, hands-on experiences, and inquiry-based activities. This type of teaching attends to all types of students because it includes visual, auditory and kinesthetic teaching strategies as much as possible. I understand if a child is struggling to learn, it is because I am not reaching the many intelligences of that child and I must adjust my approach to teaching. I strive to teach in a variety of ways and with a variety of tools to reach all learners.
I understand that each child is unique in their development and there is not a “one size fits all” to teaching or learning. A teacher must get to know each of her students and build the highest rapport for the greatest outcome of learning. I truly believe in teaching to the “whole” child, a perspective I developed through my college years studying human development. I believe when students trust that their teacher truly cares about them as individuals, they feel secure in taking risks in their learning without the fear of making mistakes. This is why above all else, I believe the first, most important step to reaching all learners, is through developing a strong and positive relationship with each and every student.
